E-book: Quando Eu Mudei O Que Aceitava, O Universo Mudou O Que Me Entregava
Transforming a static e-book into a more engaging, accessible, and navigable digital reading experience through UI Design, information architecture, and UX Writing.
The Challenge
The book already had its complete content, but the digital experience was essentially a static document.
Readers had to manually scroll through the pages, while the visual design lacked a consistent hierarchy and a strong connection to the author's brand.
The challenge was:
How might I transform a content-complete document into a digital reading experience that feels intentional, easy to navigate, and aligned with the author's identity?
From Static Document to Digital Experience
I approached the redesign from two complementary perspectives:
UI Design: recreating a cohesive visual system that reflected the author's brand.
UX Design: improving navigation, readability, hierarchy, and interaction.
The goal was not simply to make the e-book look better, but to make it work better as a digital product.
Information Architecture & Navigation
One of the biggest usability issues was navigation.
Instead of requiring readers to scroll through dozens of pages, I introduced an interactive table of contents with internal hyperlinks.
Before:
Manual scrolling through the document.
After:
Select a chapter → jump directly to the content
This reduced navigation friction and gave readers more control over how they moved through the book.
Visual Identity
I created a new cover and visual system based on the author's existing brand identity.
The color palette combines soft lavender tones with warm gold accents, creating a visual language that feels calm, warm, and aligned with the book's themes.
Rather than introducing a completely new aesthetic, I used the redesign to translate the existing brand into a more cohesive digital experience.
Typography & Readability
Typography became an important part of the UX.
I paired a more expressive typeface for headings and cover elements with a clean, highly legible typeface for body content.
The goal was to create a clear distinction between:
Brand expression
Headings, titles, and visual moments.
Reading comfort
Body copy, spacing, hierarchy, and long-form content.
I considered factors such as letter spacing, line height, hierarchy, and screen readability to create a more comfortable experience across smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.
Accessibility Through Readability
For a long-form digital product, accessibility starts with making content easy to perceive and understand.
I focused on:
clear typographic hierarchy;
readable body text;
appropriate spacing;
consistent page structure;
sufficient visual distinction between elements;
predictable navigation.
These decisions helped reduce visual and cognitive friction without compromising the author's visual identity.
Pagination & Reading Progress
I introduced a subtle pagination system to help readers understand where they were within the book.
The page numbers were intentionally kept visually quiet so they could provide orientation without competing with the content.
This small interaction detail supports a simple but important mental model:
Where am I, and how much have I read?
UX Writing & Quality Assurance
I also reviewed the text throughout the document, correcting inconsistencies and optimizing text wrapping and layout.
This was not only proofreading.
The goal was to ensure that the relationship between content and interface remained consistent (avoiding awkward line breaks, visual interruptions, and unnecessary cognitive friction).
This project reinforced my interest in UX Writing as part of the product experience rather than a final layer added after design.
The Design System
The final visual system was built around three principles:
01 — Calm
Soft colors and generous spacing create a visual environment aligned with the book's reflective tone.
02 — Clear
Typography and hierarchy make long-form content easier to scan and read.
03 — Consistent
Colors, typography, spacing, pagination, and navigation work together as one system.
Outcome
The final result transformed the original static document into a more cohesive digital reading experience, combining the author's visual identity with clearer navigation and improved readability.
The main improvements included:
Interactive navigation
Readers can move directly between chapters.
Stronger visual hierarchy
Content is easier to scan and understand.
Improved readability
Typography and spacing were optimized for digital reading.
Consistent visual identity
The interface reflects the author's existing brand.
Content quality
Text, wrapping, and layout were reviewed to create a smoother reading experience.
What I Learned
This project reinforced an important principle in my design process:
Good visual design is not only about aesthetics.
A beautiful interface can still create friction if users cannot find their way around, understand the hierarchy, or comfortably consume the content.
For me, the project was an opportunity to bring together UI Design, UX Writing, accessibility, and information architecture in a small but complete digital product.
